What Are Neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators have come a long way. What was once a treatment designed to smooth expression lines can now help patients achieve different cosmetic and medical-related goals. We offer three of the most popular and effective products that contain neurotoxins, BOTOX®, Dysport, and Xeomin®, and customize targeted treatment plans for each patient.
All three of these products are similar, but each contains a slightly different formula. Some patients may be better suited for a single injectable or a combination of neuromodulators based on their ultimate treatment goals. BOTOX®
BOTOX® is one of the most popular anti-aging injectables sought by men and women worldwide to address and correct visible expression lines. This injectable contains neurotoxins and is FDA-approved to smooth the most common dynamic wrinkles on the upper half of the face, including forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Injections with the right number of units can smooth away your expression lines and enable you to enjoy smooth skin for three to four months after the treatment.
Medical Treatments
BOTOX® medical injections can temporarily relax specific muscles to alleviate pain, discomfort and improve patient confidence. We can use BOTOX® for several different medical concerns, including hyperhidrosis, TMJ, and trapezoid relief.
Dysport®
Dysport® is a neuromodulation with neurotoxins that can smooth frown lines between the eyebrows. During the treatment, injections into the muscles around the eyebrows and in the forehead will relax those muscles, eventually relaxing the skin and creating a smoother, wrinkle-free skin texture.
Xeomin®
Xeomin® is a unique neuromodulator formulated with XTRACT Technology™, a process that creates its double-filtered formula containing highly purified neurotoxins. Like BOTOX® and Dyport®, it can smooth expression lines, but it’s different because it’s free of added proteins. Xeomin® can smooth frown lines between the eyebrows for three to four months.

Regardless of which product we determine will meet your needs, the treatment process for each neuromodulator is virtually identical. First, we will cleanse your skin to sanitize the area before making strategic injections into specific muscles.
These quick injections are administered with a short, fine needle. Some patients request a pre-treatment numbing cream, but most do not because the treatment is tolerable and comfortable. A typical treatment takes less than 30 minutes, and we can treat multiple areas during the same appointment. Once your appointment is over, you can resume your normal daily activities.
It takes several days to see the most visible treatment results, and your results will improve over the next 30 days. Of these three cosmetic injectables, Xeomin® is the fastest acting, and patients can expect improvements in expression lines within the first three to four days. Patients who undergo treatment with BOTOX® will see results within the first week, and patients who choose Dysport® can expect results within the first four to five days.
After your treatment, your results can last three to four months. For some patients, results can last as long as six months. Your body will determine how long your results last as it metabolizes the neurotoxins over time. As it does, your expression lines will gradually reappear, but you can prevent their reappearance by scheduling a follow-up treatment every three to four months.

The best way to prepare for your treatment is to ensure that your skin stays hydrated and balanced and doesn’t experience sunburn, inflammation, or irritation. It’s also important to temporarily discontinue using any blood-thinning supplements or medications which can interfere with the healing process.
Don’t schedule professional anti-aging treatments before your appointment or use harsh topical products that could cause irritation or inflammation. We can provide you with complete pre-treatment directives before your appointment.
There’s no downtime after neuromodulator treatment, but we will provide you with important aftercare instructions. You’ll need to continue to avoid blood-thinning supplements and medications for at least the first 24 hours to avoid increasing the risk of bruising and to ensure quick healing.
Additionally, you must avoid strenuous workouts, alcohol consumption, and anything that increases your body temperature or raises your blood pressure, including saunas, hot tubs, hot showers, steam rooms, and laying out in the sun for the first 24 hours post-treatment.
Neuromodulators pair well with dermal fillers as each can target a different root cause of aging. They can also be combined with other anti-aging, skin-perfecting treatments, although it’s important to schedule treatments accordingly to ensure that they don’t interfere with the results of your neuromodulator treatments.
